The Government has started a hunt for HS2 manufacturer. The £2.75 billion contract will be awarded in 2019 with the winning bidders going on to deliver a brand new fleet of up to 60 trains which will provide services capable of seating more than 1,000 passengers. Last spring the UK experienced a growth in reshoring manufacturing, following the industry trend in North America. 18 months later, how has this evolved and what will be the impact of Brexit? Family-run, UK plastic injection moulding company Pentagon Plastics have continued to experience a resurgence in reshoring. Over the last year they have welcomed an increase in enquiries from customers that have previously used overseas suppliers. Paul Edwards, Managing Director, highlights that companies looking to bring their manufacturing back to the UK ...Read more
Reshoring got top billing a couple of years ago when Prime Minister of the day David Cameron launched a government-backed reshoring initiative. A report from the National Audit Office has said the HS2 high-speed rail project faces major cost pressure and an unrealistic timetable. The NAO believes that the 2026 target opening date for the first phase was at risk despite making good progress. HS2 is still confident it can achieve all its goals. In 10 years’ time the phase linking London and the West Midlands is due to be completed. The next section, running to Crewe is due to open a year later ...Read more
